can't access internet thru ie 6.0 browser, w sp1

i can't access any external sites thru my IE6.0 sp1
browser, but can access internal sites, on one of my
servers. This server is also a DC and a secondary DNS
server on the domain. When the the primary server fails,
the secondary used to take over it's dns functions,
resolving internal names from the server's DNS, or using
the external DNS servers named in the "forwarding"
component of DNS. The forwarded addresses belong to our
ISP, correctly so. Now when primary fails, secondary
doesn't work and internet user accees fails. Sounds like
a DNS issue because can get to internal sites. I checked
the 2 dns servers and all settings look the same (DNS,
services running, networking and browser settings, etc).
Flushed the DNS also. Any ideas? Only changes made
lately to the server was to install current windows
security and critical updates, but did that on both DNS
servers & the other one operates ok. Am using win 2000
server with sp 3

Sounds like a DNS issue because can get to internal sites.

If nslookup can resolve the external addresses it isn't a DNS issue,
it's a routing issue. Try using netstat /r for clues.

Search keywords: persistent static route routing

You may be looking in the wrong newsgroup if this is the right tack.
Try a newsgroup for your OS which specializes in networking.
