Can't Access FTP Server

I am trying to set up and FTP server on my WinXp Sp1 computer. I using WS_FTP
as my Server v. 5.02. I have a linksys router attached to my modem. I have
tried almost everything to get this to work. From all I read this should be
a fairly simple process. I gone through all the port forwarding stuff.

I read an article that I should first test my local machine to determine if
the problem lie there first. From the command prompt I typed
Ftp <IP address> and this worked great
Then it prompt me for UserID I enter ID and this works great
Then it prompt me for password At this point I am unable to type anything

Does anyone know what this is telling me? Any help will be appreciated!!!
Is there any other way to test FTP

The password is invisible. You are able to type the password, it
is just not shown. Type it and press return.

In WS_FTP you could try to use passive FTP (PASV mode) for a
test.
