Can't access any webmail servers is it a security setting issue?

My friend has windows xp, uses aol, & verizon dsl. Recently she has
not been able to access any webmail or any servers requiring a log-in.
For example, she can go to the yahoo main page, but when you click on
mail, she gets the error page which tells you to refresh & check
settings....etc which she has done. She can access general webpages
and can access her aol account directly, but not through webmail.

We've checked many of the internet settings, but can't figure out what
could be wrong. She recently reinstalled AOL because her computer was
running slow to begin with. She has a virus program, so we don't think
it is a virus, but something must have changed a setting not
recognizing her pc?

Help! Any ideas of settings to check or change or what could be
causing this? Did the AOL reinstall change something?

Thanks!

Amy

Make sure your firewall is not blocking port 443.
