Can't acces shares from XP to XP(?)

T

Tim Schultz

I have two computers connected by an SMC Barricade cable
router, PC2 can see and access files on PC1, yet PC1 (main
computer) can see PC2 and the shares, but cannot access
them. I have tried two different NICs on PC1 resulting in
the same errors.

I either get an error that "I don't have permission to
access these resources, the network name cannot be found",
or "not enough server storage space is available to process
this command".

I can ping PC2 by IP and netbios name, yet I can't get at
the shares!

I had the same problem with a D-Link router. Each PC has
XP sp2 installed, file sharing is enabled and both systems
and I have no problem getting out to the NET through the
router. I am at a total loss here as there is NOTHING
regarding this seemingly simple problem in any KB articles
that I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Those error messages are very misleading. The problem is probably
that an antivirus program has changed an obscure TCP/IP setting on
PC2. Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a likely
solution, specifying a value of 15 for IRPStackSize on PC2:
