canoscan 9950 F usb 2 compatibility query

Hello,
About to buy the canoscan 9950 F scanner:
I have a concern that the USB port on the laptop I use isn't USB 2 but
USB1:
1. is a there a simple way to distinguish between the USB 1 and USB 2
ports?

2. is there a thing to reduce USB 2 to USB 1 if I find that I have to
do this (whilst I save up for a new computer!!)

Thanks for your help
Chris

If you open the Device Manager, click on the Universal Serial Bus
controllers.

If you see a USB Enhanced Host Controller, you have USB 2.0. If all you see
are USB Root Hub, then you only have USB 1.0 or USB 1.1.

The 9950 F scanner will work on USB 1.1. The data tranfer is 1/40th the
speed of USB 2.0, but it works.

USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible, they will work with USB 1.1 just
fine.
The term "Full Speed" means USB 1.1. The term "High Speed" means USB 2.0.
