Hi I am in the market to buy a Printer with low running costs I am
trying to research it first "look before you leap" so to speak
I have looked up some Consumer Research which is supposed to be
independent.
Canon seems to be the preferred brand, I have heard stories about
Canon Printer Technical Support been very bad and its expensive too
calling Premium Rate telephone lines.(Amazon.com customer reviews)
As for Consumables ink cartridge running costs none of these are
"chipped" like Epson Printers?
Which Printer of the following is the newest most recent to hit the
High Street?
One Sales rep suggested I go with Canon Pixma IP6700D

The Canon Pimxa iP4200 is a great all round printer producing
fantastic quality plain text documents as well as photographs and
graphics. It prints quickly and quietly, and we found it easy to set
up and use.
Plain text documents from this machine were described as 'very sharp
and clean' by our testers, and they didn't take long to print either -
just 38 seconds for a five page letter. Start up times were also
really impressive for this model it took only 14 seconds from turning
on to print one page of plain text on A4 paper.
The quality of photographs produced from this device were great
although speeds were only average - it took 172 seconds to print one
side of A4. Likewise desk top publishing printouts were good and we'd
recommend this machine if you frequently print newsletters and
birthday cards.
This model is PictBridge enabled, so you can connect your PictBridge
enabled digital camera directly to the printer using a special USB
cable and print photos without having to turn your computer on.
There's also a second paper tray, which you could choose to load with
photo paper, so you don't have to keep switching the paper over.
However, there aren't any memory card slots.
When it comes to running costs you won't be disappointed as this Best
Buy Canon is cheap as chips for consumption costs.
Pros: Good quality printouts. Low running costs. Second paper tray.

The Dell 3010cn colour laser printer really impressed our testers with
high quality text and desk top publishing documents and reasonably
lifelike photos.
Plain text documents, such as letters, are of a very high quality and
they don't take long to produce either - it took just 22 seconds to
print a five page letter. Laser printers often take a while to warm up
when printing the first page of a document but this Dell is reasonably
quick at just 9 seconds.
The quality of desk top publishing documents from this machine was
good; our testers noted that the images were sharp although there was
some visible dithering - the technical term that describes an
imperfection where you can see patterns in the printing, which stops
images from looking life-like.
Running costs for laser printers are generally a lot lower than those
for inkjet printers. The Dell 3010cn is no exception print costs were
very low for plain text documents, and even for colour graphics
documents.
Pros: Very quick, low running costs, good colour documents.
Cons: As with all laser printers we don't recommend you use this
machine to print photos.
