This morning I had a run in with Canon. I wanted to view/download a
manual for a Pixma ip4200 printer in order to talk my mother through a
procedure over the telephone. The Canon call centre could only offer
to sell me a manual and said that the manual was not available anywhere
from them over the internet.

After a wasted telephone call I checked Canon USA and they have all the
manuals freely available. So if you need a manual, don't call Canon
UK/Europe, go to this address:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct

And pick it up for free with the minimum of hassle.

Another example of rip-off Britain. I wonder is USA Canon printers
ship with a USB lead?

Just about all PC printers in N.America are nowadays
supplied with only USB connectors.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM. IF CANON TECH SUPPT IS CALLED THE CANON CALL
CENTRE THEN YOU WILL HAVE A PROBLEM SINCE THEY ARE ANAL. BUT IF CANON
TECH SUPPT IS CALLED THE CANON CALL CENTER YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM.
GET IT.

I don't know if this is another example of rip-off Britain. A good
rule of thumb is not to bother talking to the humans, unless you can't
find it on the website. For laughs you could try e-mailing support.

Another good rule of thumb, and one I employ on a regular basis, is to
check out support in other english speaking nations.

My ip3000 did not, and no usa canon ships with a CD tray. I can't say
on the ip4200 or newer, but typicaly speaking most printers do not ship
with a USB lead. There are exceptions, for example HPs sold at costco
at one point did ship with one, where the store next to costco did not.

In this case, no, not any more than you do. (Wow, I feel really dumb.)
