Canon printer, can I reduce the amount of black ink being used?

I couldn't find the paper I used to buy for making flyers and
brochures. So, I got another paper that is very nice, but isn't quite
as compatible with my printer. It is a glossy flyer type paper.

It prints fine except for black, which pools since it isn't being
absorbed well enough.

I managed to solve the problem with photos by reducing the opacity of
the photo to 75%. Then it prints fine.

What I need to figure out is how to adjust text in a word processor
file. I managed to fix today's problem by changing the black text to
dark blue. That comes out fine. But I would still like the option of
printing black.

Draft uses less ink, but messes up my text. Not good for advertising
flyers.

When I go to maintenance, there is a custom settings option that looks
like I can adjust ink drying time, but it is greyed out, and I cannot
change those settings.

Is there a way to tell the printer to use less of the black ink? I
have tried most of the paper settings to see if any of them would give
better results. No luck.

The paper is actually better than my old paper. Nicer feel, shinier,
and one third the cost. So, I would love to keep using this paper.

Any suggestions?

It is in the manual

Sorry. I should have mentioned this. I bought my printers used. No
manual. I tried looking on the website, but I could not find my kind
of printer. They had compact printers and large format printers, but
the regular inkjet printers were all the pixma models. I have the I
and S series (i560, i850, s820, s9000).

The Canon black is compatible with many papers, but as you have discovered,
not all. I use 28# copy paper for flyers, and it works well with the Canon
blacks.

You don't say what model you have. But if it also has photo-black ink, try
using that on your glossy paper. All you need to do is select one of the
photo paper settings and it'll use the photo black instead of the regular
black.

Another trick: use 80% gray for text instead of black.

How would I do this?

My word processor gives a limited choice of colors. I don't see any
way there to choose a new color or alter a color.

Please just post what model printer you are using.

If it uses photo inks, then all you need to do is select photo paper when
you print. Or, select plain paper depending on what paper you are using. One
or the other will fix your problem.

I supposed the word as the word processor. I don't know how to for other
word processors.
