I have a Canon Powershot S20 (Old Model). It worked fine
with Windows 98. I now have Windows XP and it will not
recognize my camera.

Any suggestions?? Other than buying a new camera!

If you connect the camera and turn
it on...and then go to...My Computer...
it may be recognized as a removable
drive.

Also...might be worth a try to purchase
a USB Compact Flash card reader

Can we assume you have loaded the appropriate driver for WINXP? Do you
seriously think that buying a new camera will solve your problem?

You appear to have more money than sense.

I would suggest going to the Canon website. You should be able to download drivers for your camera there. Save them in a logical place. From Control Panel, select install new hardware and point to the drvers when you have that choice.

Having been through this probelm with my S100, I firmly believe that Canon cannot solve driver problems that were not Xp tested, or IRQ conflicts and/or conflicts caused by other hardware/software associated with other card readers you may have installed. That is the price of new technology, it advances faster than we like, so the solution might just as well be, "buy a cheaper" camera, unless the manufacturer will guarantee it's software too.

Th Canon S100 WINXP drivers seem to be problem free, at least they are on
all of my machines. I don't think Canon has a "problem" to solve with them.
Perhaps the problem lies with your configuration.
