canon powershot G5

thanos

According to the manual of the camera,no drivers are needed to be instaled
on winXp but only the file viewer application.
Nevertheles after instaling the programs and connected the camera, windows
didn't recognised it.NO CAMERA FOUND!
I've allready dowloaded the appropriate driver from canons' page but not
installed it yet.I'm a bit hesitating!
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Continuing...on the answer i got from Joe Cilinceon (thank you Joe).
The driver i dowloaded from canon page was a zip file which automatically
unziped in Windows/temp folder and contained several items like:setup
launcher, widows installer packages, canon digital camera WIA driver update
utility,etc...
I actually run all of them :) but the problem still remains.
When i open the device manager the camera is actually there but says that
the drivers for this device are not installed and when i try to
automatically update them it says that the data is not valid!
The Same camera works perfectly on a windows 98 pc.
Is there someone who could give me detailed and step to step information and
advice on what exactly i must do?
I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you.
P.S
Another Hewllet Pacard camera caused me absolutely no problems on the same
pc...

I answer this for you yesterday but here it is again. Install the Windows XP
driver from the canon site they are needed. The software you got with the
camera may have not installed the driver properly. I had this problem and
downloaded and installed the WIA drivers and all works fine on my G3 which
is the same as the G5.

XP doesn't recognize my Canon Digital Camera

Different ways to try to repair the Autoplay window for downloading from
either a camera or card reader.

Go from steps I to V, although step V may not be needed.

I. Connect your camera to your computer, power it on and make sure you have
pictures on your memory card. Make sure your batteries are good or better
yet, use your AC adapter if your camera came with one. If you are trying
with a card reader, just connect it with a memory card inserted and with
pictures on the memory card.

II. Click on Start, click on Run and type the following in the textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
and press Enter
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...
This will take a few seconds to run.

III. Go to the following site:
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

and download the autofix.exe file in one of your folder. Once done, double
click on this file. A window will open. Follow the directions on the screen.

Once done, turn off the camera and reboot.

IV. Power the camera on, wait 10-15 seconds for XP to recognize it, you
should hear some beeping sound and the window should now open giving you the
option of downloading photos from the camera.

V. You may have to set the options for this window.
Click on My Computer, your camera should be listed there under Devices with
Removable Storage. Right click on it and click on Properties. In the opening
window, click on the Autoplay tab and under Select, scroll to Pictures to
select it. Select the button Prompt me...

Here are previous fixes at the Microsoft FAQ page.

Go this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/faq/default.asp

Fourth item from the top of the page. Two fixes are presented. One is to
edit the registry, the second one is to download Tweak UI and do the repair
with it. If you are comfortable editing the registry, go ahead.

If not, download Tweak UI.

Once you download the Tweak UI file in one of your folders, double click on
it to install it.

Once this is done, click on Start and click on All Programs. Look for Power
Toys for Windows XP. Click on it and Tweak UI will be listed. Click on it to
get is started.

A window will open. Click on the + sign next to My Computer, then click on
the + sign next to Autoplay. Then, click on Types. Check the boxes for
Autoplay Drive Types and click OK.

I tried to connect my Canon Powershot S50 to my computer. The software
loaded fine. The instruction manual of the camera stated that XP would
automatically recognize the camera and install the drivers. However, this
didn't work. I downloaded drivers from Canon's website. That didn't work.
I brought in a tech. That didn't work. I called Canon tech support.
Bottom line; they say that it is my computer. I also bought a panasonic
camcorder. Same problem.

One correct in the case of the canon camera, don't turn them on. They have a
built in PC mode and start themselves in this mode once connected via USB.

Please consult the G5 manual also.
There are 2 options for this Canon G5 which can be selected a camera menu
If 'PTP' modus is selected you're likely not going to be able to connect unless you use Windows XP.
