Canon Pixma MP530 - Change Ink?

B

Bill Martin

Here's a dumb question that I can't find in the manual. One of my ink tanks
has been gradually getting lower. Now the Canon printer driver in my PC is
telling me "Prepare new ink tanks". What in &^%$ does that mean?

a) It's time to change the tanks now before something is damaged.
b) A friendly warning to get a new ink tank in hand for when it does
need changed?
c) Something else altogether.

I don't find this warning message listed in the manual anywhere. It only
seems to say to change the ink when the printer itself tells me to on its
LCD panel, or when the printing gets spotty. No mention of this PC
installed driver monitor of theirs or what it's messages mean.

Thanks...

It's not your question that's dumb, it's the message you are getting that's
dumb!
It just means that you should have a spare at hand because one of the tanks is
about to become empty. So the answer is b).
Relax, the printer will tell you when to replace the cartridge(s).

I assume they are warning you that your ink is soon going to run out and
you need to have some ready on hand, or be stuck with a non-functional
printer shortly when the system shuts down do to too low an ink level,
in order to protect the ink heads.

I used to work in a Canon repair workshop. I don't recall working on
this particular model, but the general principle was the same for all
Canons. The cheapo and portable models usually estimated the ink
consumption, and would warn if it was about to run out. The other
models, with separate ink tanks for each colour, would detect the
absence of fluid ink in a tank (meaning that only the ink absorbed on
the wick was remaining) and flag this as a warning that ink was about to
run out.
So, go to the shop and buy some more Canon ink tanks.
