Canon IP6000D printer problem or Windows XP problem

Don Dunlap

I hope this is the right forum to ask. I have the Subject printer and have
primarily used it for photo printing. I am trying to print Draft
spreadsheets and letters and it only prints "Fine" quality, taking very long
for each page.

I have tried all settings that I can find, naturally the "Draft" option in
the properties, but it always prints the highest quality. Has anyone else
had this problem or can anyone point me in a direction to resolve it.

I am using Windows XP Pro and just downloaded the latest drivers. I guess
that this could be a Windows problem but I am not leaning that way yet. I
believe that I was able to print in Draft mode earlier, but can't be sure.
I am
trying to print some Quattro Pro spreadsheets and some Word Perfect letters,
but get the same results with anything. The spreadsheets are being printed
in 'Landscape' mode if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help

Uninstall the printer drivers and disconnect the printer. Reboot.
Reinstall the printer drivers. If this continues to occur--
Try using start settings printers & Fax to set the options. Shutdown,
Reboot.
Did the options hold.
Make sure that the desired mode is set for both portrait & landscape. Reset
any options as needed. Shutdown, & Reboot.
IF the options don't hold--
The driver or registry entries for the driver are likely the culprit.
Occasionally, the multi-user environment may play a part.
In the case of registry options, the safest thing to do is to see if canon
has a cleanup utility that will remove any stray or corrupt registry entries
for the printer.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will go through the steps and see if any
of them correct the problem. I am the only user, so that should not be an
issue.

Thanks again,

I tried them all and the printer still only prints high quality print - no
draft. I called canon and talked to support there and they put me through a
few steps without any change and finally gave up, calling it a software
problem with Quattro Pro and Word Perfect. I don't agree but what can you
do, the printer is two months out of warranty.

I have a job I am working on that requires about 54 spreadsheets that I will
have to print about every two to three days. With the printer acting the
way it does, it takes 2 minutes 20 seconds for each page. I am giving up
and buying a cheap laser printer and just using the Canon for photos.

Thanks for the suggestions

Word Perfect? I havn't seen that since the Apple ][+ days. I had to patch
the printer driver to make it work with a non Apple printer card. You may
find the same problem with a laser printer.

These programs originally ran with ASCII printers, and some users still use
dot matrix ASCII printers today. It's possible that the program sends a
control string that causes the printer to change from draft to fine. If so,
this usually results in a reduced print size.

I have used Word Perfect for about 20-25 years and it is now version 12. It
is as good as MS Word and is up to date with all printers. It worked with
two previous printers and I believe that it worked with this printer a few
months ago. There is some problem with the Canon driver I believe but can't
pinpoint it.

Did you actually talk to Corel? Since it's their software, they should take
responsiblity for their problem.
