Canon i860 paper that's good for text and graphics?

Don Leighty

I was told that the Canon i860 "photo" printer would do a good job on
text and graphics as well, so I bought one to print the CD booklets
and inserts that I design. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find
a 2-sided paper that comes anywhere near the quality that this printer
can provide when using Canon's various 1-sided photo papers. (The
results using H-P bright white inkjet paper are terrible, for example,
although this produced superb booklet pages with my old H-P printer)

Can anyone recommend a plain/coated 2-sided paper that provides good
resolution and color with this Canon printer? It will need to
reproduce small text clearly, and also to show good detail on small
jpeg images (not always of the highest quality to begin with).

Canon has been totally unhelpful, even to the point of twice
recommending I mailorder Canon papers that turned out to be 1-sided.
They don't actually make a 2-sided paper, and refuse to acknowledge
that anyone would have a need for something like that. I would have
thought they'd be the ones best able to tell me what paper types work
best with their product, but they can't be bothered.

Thank you.

Don,
Punch up www.redrivercatalog.com, they offer a wide variety of papers.
They also offer a sample pack consisting of two sheets of all papers
they handle. I use their stuff and like it very much. BTW my color
printer is a Canon i960.

I'm certain you'll find something there that suits your needs.

Red River Paper is one of the most recommended vendors on this newsgroup.
They should have what you are looking for.

Thanks for a new link to check out, Ron. I'm afraid the Red River
2-sided paper (Zeppelin semi-gloss) is too heavy for thick CD
booklets, though. 28 to 32 lb. is probably ideal, and Red River's
minimum is 45 lb. (It's also a lot more expensive than what I can
manage. 500 sheets of high quality H-P paper has been running me
about $10, and an equivalent amount would cost $190 plus shipping.
Whew!)

The H-P paper gave me incredible results at a cheap price. It doesn't
work at all with the Canon i860, though. Canon's 1-sided papers look
great, but I don't know what kind of 2-sided paper would give me
something comparable.

Best wishes,
Don Leighty
