Canon camera freezes computer

Whenever I plug my Canon S400 camera into my computer (XP
Pro) it freezes up and I can only continue by doing a
hard reboot (hitting the switch on the tower/case). I
started out using the "Zoombrowzer" software that came
with the camera, but have unistalled that and the same
thing happens when using the Windows wizard to download
my photos.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

Thanks...

I would use Windows Explorer (note: this is not the Internet Explorer) and
look at the camera as if it were a disk drive. I have done this for over a
year with my Canon camera and have never had a problem. What I have done to
make it even easier, is I bought a Dazzle Compact Flash card reader which
plugs into a USB port and again looks like a disk drive when you plug the CF
card into it. It transfers pictures significantly faster than through the
camera. Just make sure you delete pictures on the flash card via the camera.
If you have a lot of pictures (I am sometimes transferring 200 pictures) it
is much faster to have the camera reformat the card than have it delete the
pictures.

If it is any help, the shoap that sold me my Canon G2 told me to not load the
Zoombrowser. I ignored their advice, but have since abndoned the programme
for the XP Wizard. It is much easier and more sim,ple to use.
