I'm having trouble with Youtube videos - I get a prompt saying that
javascript is either turned off or I need a new flashplayer, which I
have already installed. . .I have went through the procedure in
Internet Options for turning on active scripts as well as java applets
and I get the same prompt - what am I not doing/doing wrong? Thanks!

First thing to try would be to completely uninstall, then reinstall Flash:

How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
Read the instructions there, then download and run their uninstaller.
Then reinstall Flash:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

If you are still having problems with Flash, see:
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166

Also, update/reinstall your scripting engines from here:

What AV or Internet suite are you using?
make sure you have cookies turned on and adblocking for youtube.com
turned OFF.
This just happened with me on another PC where I am running Norton
it was blocking ads. When I allowed ads for that site youtube worked.
On another PC where I have CA internet suite I had to add youtube.com
to the site list under privacy in the firewall.
hope this helps
