cannot view contents of c:\windows (and no, it's not the "show files" bit)

For some very strange reason, after cleaning a virus off
my machine, I cannot view the contents of the c:\windows
directory in explorer. That is, I can see folders in the
left side view, but nothing in the right side view. This
only happens in c:\windows and its subdirectories, not in
any other directories. I can't see files or manipulate
them in explorer. I can see them from a command line,
though. And if I create a new folder or file, they exist.
They're just...invisible.

Nothing in the eventviewer, either.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

I see the same effect on my PC. I am running on Win2K Pro
and I was following the instruction to remove msblast.exe
manually. Now I can't see the files in C:\WINNT &
C:\Program files. However, if the left menu bar is
switched on, the files are still there.

I also realise that I cannot paste objects and do
hyperlinks on my MS Office programs like MS Words and
Excel. Can someone please advice!
