Applications not seeing directories/files. Virus?

I first noticed this a few days ago.

Files I created in Adobe Acrobat and saved to a subdirectory were not
visible when I tried to view them from Windows Explorer - but I COULD see
them listed in a CMD window and I could open them from the 'recent files'
list in Acrobat.

I ran chkdsk /f and it did find some errors and fixed them but that didn't
resolve the issue.

Now, I am trying to load graphic images into Photoshop and it cannot see any
of the files I can see in the directory. Strangely, if I copy the
sub-directory to the desktop, then Photoshop can see them! If I rename the
sub-directory on the desktop and copy it back to the original directory, it
is invisible to the application again.

I have run my anti-virus (NOD32) but nothing is coming up.

Any ideas?

Hang in, this isn't IM and people do take time to respond.

The only idea I come up with is security. I'm the only user on my
system. I don't even use Administrator. Everything is mine and I put it
all there. I have a Dell laptop and the OS loads and asks for a user
name and that's what I use for the rest of the life of that PC.
So based on that, I have no issues like this and see no reason you would
have any. Seeing a sub folder or having a folder show here and not
there has to be something security / permission maybe. But I'm
guessing. You have to play detective a bit more. You know more about
this like who made the folder and who loaded the software. Also check
permission of the folder if you can, and can you save and populate the
settings to all subfolders?

I have photoshop and I have no problem brownsing folders. Now I do
know the later versions of PS have something like a catalog. I see a
'add to catalog' (or something like that) on the save window. I don't
know what it is and I always uncheck this and try to turn off cataloging
and databasing of my images. Mostly cause I work with them outside the
program so much, I don't want windows and PS to get out of sync.

Its all I can suggest and I may be off base.
