Cannot unjoin the domain

Just upgraded a server to 2003 SBS and went great. All client machines work,
exchange works. But i have another server on my network that host a crucial
program that all users need to access. It is a 2000 server that has no server
function other than hosting this program. When i try to unjoin it from the
old domain so i can rejoin it to the new one i get an error message like "the
following error occured attempting to unjoin the domain"mydomain.com" The
handle is invalid". I've tried changing the dns, logged on locally, tried to
even rename it and that didnt work either. Confused and a little worried.
Thanks for any help

I would check the DNS settings first. Can you ping the SBS by FQDN?

i can ping and browse the servers through nw neighborhood from each server.
from the client machines i cannot browse the 2000 server. When i click it from
within NW neighbor it says "there are currently no logon servers available to
service the logon request "
I kept the domain name the same on the new server as it was on the old.
thanks
