cannot uninstall wmp9

I was having problems playing cds or music in the wmp11 library so I tried
to uninstall it and use vlc which works fine. It would only roll back to
wmp9 which will not be rid of no matter what I try. This included removing
every registry entry with wmp (first saved on my desktop) I could find.
Makes no difference, when I try to play music it remains defaulted to wmp9,
or at least the option to install wmp9. I'm running xpHome, service pack 2.
thank you
John

Thanks for the quick reply Mark. I went to 'set program access and
defaults' then 'custom/Choose a default media player/Use my current media
player (the only other option was wmp), but no success. All my music files
are still defaulted to reinstalling wmp9.
thanks again

First you have to associate that filetype with your other player, then set
the use current. Rightclick the file, open with, check the box for 'always
use this..' and choose the player.

I always remember this to be the method to default a program but for some
reason' Rightclick the file, open with, check the box for 'always '', does
not appear to be an option. It says 'open with', but there is no box to
check 'always' use this option.

John once you select the "open with" selection that Mark talked about you
will get another popup box with the selections and the checkbox .
