Cannot type address without http://

Thomas L. Goodson

I have recently begun to have a problem with my IE6 (Windows XP Pro with all
patches and updated applied). There have been no system changes since IE
was working (in fact the only program that has been run is Print Master 11)
I have read and checked the items from a previous message noted below.
Also, I have seen this problem at several customer's sites and would like to
know how to fix it.

Check to see if this parasite is the cause.

Check the below Registry entries vs. yours:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
Default="http://"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

If that isn't the problem, Using Regedit, browse to the following registry
key and make sure the noted setting is correct:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoCo
mplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

Thomas,
Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?

Hi,

If I do not specifie http:// infront of the web page that I want to
open in the address bar of IE it crashes. So if I type www..... only
it becomes not responding if I type http://www.. then it is working
perfect.

My operating system is XP Pro, IE is 6 SP1 with the latest Feb update.

Is it fixable?
