cannot turn norton antivirus on!

I have Norton Antivirus 2004, Windows Xp w/Svc.Pack 2 installed.
Today, for first time, a pop up screen continually comes up saying that
"Virus protection is turned off". I went to Norton Anti-Virus menu
which confirmed that the protection is indeed OFF. My problem is that
I am unable to turn it on. When I depress the OFF button, or the
ENABLE button, nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong? What should I do? I don't believe the
subscription has expired because LIVE UPDATE does check for definitions
when I access it.

Congratulations, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Dump it and
get decent antiviruse software.

Uninstall the software and check for virus infection by running
Sysclean_FE from the below address. After scanning you can re-install
Norton again.

Congratulations, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Dump it and
get decent antiviruse software.

I am using NAV since the first release more then 10 years ago and had
never problems with this program. NAV is very reliable. I never had
any problem with a virus or trojan.
