Cannot Turn Computer Off

When I hit the "windows key" then the "u" key followed by another "u"
keystroke my computer does not shut down it restarts.

How can I get the entry to work properly and it turn the computer off the
way it is supposed to?

I caused the problem somehow. After tearing my computer down and
reinstalling win XP I tried to turn off the computer and got a dialog box
asking me if what I wanted to do and I put the incorrect entry in and
checked the "never show this dialog again".

I have rebuilt my computer several times and never saw anything like this
before even though I have used the same program disks for all of the
rebuilds. It seems that everytime I install XP there is something new or
different that was never there on any of the previous installations. ------
OH WELL!

Thanks

it will be your power management control panel
that will give you the options and methods for
powering down your system.

but it might be helpful for you to use
a freeware called super fast shutdown at
http://www.xp-smoker.com/freeware.html

since it is only shutdown and reboot, you
can make a homemade icon for hibernation.

on your desktop select new shortcut then
copy n paste the next line into the shortcut path

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState

then you can call it hibernation.
