"Turn Off Computer" dialog box appears while typing

While typing emails the Turn Off Computer dialog box pops up when I hit the
shift key. I have tried to restore back to my XP installation date -
11/24/07. I am using a Dell Inspiron 8500 docked to a pro1x. The problem
began after I went to control Panel>display>ScreenSaver>Power>Advanced and at
the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" I selected "do nothing".
The dialog box has appearred 4 times while typing this post. If I don't see
it and keep typing, my computer shuts down and I loose whatever I've typed.
HELP!

Thanks Shakey,

It isn't side specific and seems to be contagiuos. I have about 6 prompts
while typing this little post. Make that 7! 8 9 11! Think I'll put reinstall
disk in and try repair.

Might have found the error - either a faulty or incompatible (eMachine)
keyboard. I have a Dell USB keyboard now and so far so good! Windows wouldn't
load up for repair. Got an error message and shutdown note. Might try again
now to see if the keyboard caused that, too.

Thanks

Glad you tried a new keyboard first. That, not Windows, was the most likely cause.
PS Emachines were never known for quality parts.
