cannot transfer schema master

I had 2 windows domain controllers. DC1, and DC2.
both were windows 2000. DC1 holds all 5 fsmo roles.

I upgraded DC2 to Windows 2003.

I am trying to transfer the schema master role to DC2, but it gives me an
error message: The parameter is incorrect. The transfer of the current
operations master could not be performed.

Any help is appreciated.

How do you try to transfer roles?Through AD users and computers console or
through NTDSUTIL?Try to do it with NTDSUTIL and then seize FSMO roles.This
operation will force transfer or roles to server.

It is my understanding that seizing a role is a last resort, and only when
the DC will not be available again.
I tried to transfer the role by using the AD Schema snap-in.
