Cannot start windows

Hi

Please I hope somebody can help.

Over Christmas I installed a wireless keyboard and mouse into my
computer. since then the computer will not boot into windows (XP). I
get the start up screen (The one with the green bar) and then nothing.
I can boot into start mode and have tried a system restore to a point
before I installed the drivers (I have also re instated the old
keyboard and mouse) and this doesn't work.

System restore now will not work at all,

I have unistalled the drivers in safe mode..still nothing.

I have looked at the event viewer and I get the following messages.

SYSTEM:

The SYMTDI service depends on the TCP/IP protocol driver service which
failed to start because of the following error,
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

The DHCP client server depends on the SYMTDI service which failed to
start because of the following error.
The dependancy service or group failed to start.

The DNS client service depends on the TCP/IP protocol driver service
which failed to start because of the following error,
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

the messanger server depends on the netbios interface service which
faileed to start because because of the following error.
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

IPSEC services service depends on IPSEC driver service which failed to
start because of the following error.
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

The following boot start/system start drivers failed to load.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has not enabled devices associated with it"
attampting to start the service eventsystem with arguments "" in order
to run the server.

Windoes cannot unload yr classes registry file - it is still in use by
other applications or services. The file will be unloaded when it is
not longer in use.

What can I do to get my system working again....if anything?.

XP REPAIR

Boot from the CD or you can insert the CD while at the windows desktop but
when the setup screen appears, exit setup and reboot. If your system is set
to be able to boot from the CD, it should detect the disk and give a brief
message, during the boot up, if you wish to boot from the CD press any key.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately i do not have a windows XP
installation CD to book from. Windows was already loaded on when I
bought the machine. I have a recovery disk with a program called
Ghost.exe on it but this will completely wipe my Harddrive which I
really want to avoid.

My OS system is XP home but I think I can get a copy of XP professional
from a friend. Can I use this disk or does it have to be the home
edition?.

Hi,

Managed to get xp home installation disk from someone and tried to
install as suggested. went fine, booted from disk and followed
instructions as mention but during setup it got to around 2 thirds of
the way through installing devices and crashed every time. Now I cannot
even boot into safe mode as it couldn't complete the setup and keeps
restarting.

I tried to use the recover console but it is asking me for the
administrator password which i have never set up. I tried to leave it
blank but it wouldn't accept this.

What do I do???????

There are many ISO images you can download from the internet that will
allow you to boot the computer and reset the Admin password. You can
also move files to another location so you can run ghost.
