OK, I gave up on fixes and reinstalled frm original disk, Win XP Home Ed.
Tho't I did it right this time. Installed drivers from Drivers Disk, but not
Apps yet.

Installed SP2 frm disk. Defrag'd. My Comp properties reads: NTFS, WIN XP,
Ver 2002, Sv Pk 2, 55277-OEM-0011903-00105".

Downloaded both AVG and IE7 programs; saved in My Downloads, but....when
went to upload get msg on both "...not a WIN32 app"! Hey, I had both running
before I did the clean install!!!

Events System:Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7001
Date: 5/30/2009
Time: 6:54:05 PM
User: N/A
Computer: OWNER
Description:
The IPSEC Services service depends on the IPSEC driver service which failed
to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
But nothing from that screen.

And Events Applications: "Userenv, Event 1517, NT Authority\System".

I need to get my AVG antivirus/spyware running, but what is the problem?

Addendum: Now this! Just went to Con Pan, User accts to ensure that I was
Administrator, and screen opened with msg: "Error in script on this page.
Access denied= URL:/C:\Windows\system32\nusrmgr.cpl/nusrmgr.hta".

Does this have anything to do with my changing my computer name from the one
that came up highlighted when reinstalling...but it said I could change it
there!!!
Oh, am so very frustrated.

It doesn't have anything to do with typing in a different name during
install, AFAIK it has to do with IE script error messages.

See if this helps:
Open IE properties.
Click the Advanced tab.

Select/Enable "Disable script debugging".
Unselect/disable "Display a notification about every script error".

If any devices which the IPSEC Service depends on aren't working or
properly installed, you need to find which device it is and either install
it's drivers if they aren't installed, uninstall/reinstall the drivers if
they are corrupt or update the drivers.

IPSEC Services depends on the IPSEC driver, RPC (Remote Procedure Call)
driver and the TCP/IP protocol drivers.

Another possibility is if you were online without protection, your system
may have been compromised which wouldn't take long to happen.
