Cannot start Outlook

Windows 98, Office 2000, OL2000 in Corp mode. Open outlook, hangs at splash
screen. Maspisp32 does not start. I've tried: new profile, office repaired,
reinstalled, completely uninstalled and reinstalled, installed SP3 for
Office, no luck. Mailbox is fine, accessing from another machine.

Formatting and reloading windows etc is last resort only, as there are
applications on this machine that cannot be reinstalled.

Ideas?

TIA,

Susan

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Thanks Milly - that worked like a charm. But I'm curious - why was this file
not replaced when I did the repair - or at the very least when I completely
uninstalled and reinstalled Office?
