Paul,

I suspect you have a very short timeout for the boot menu set in your
boot.ini.

Are you able to log in *not* using safe mode? If so:

1. open MSConfig. (Sart, Run, MSconfig)
2. Select the tab for Boot.ini,
3. On the bootom half of this page set the timeout= value to 30
4. Under Boot options on this page check the box for Safe Boot.
5. Close MSConfig and restart to test.

If this doesn't work, see if you can delay the startup using a non-boot
disk:
1. With your computer off, put in a blank floppy disk
<assumes you have a floppy drive, and BIOS is set to look at it during
boot>
2. Start your computer. It will atempt to read the floppy
3. Press F8 repeating once per second

If this doesn't work:
1. Do you have an item on the startup screen that allows you to go into
System Startup <F1, F12, etc>?
2. If so, see if you have more boot options than what you are seeing with
the current CMOS settings.

Example: enable boot from CD, then boot with a non-bootable CD, this
would give you more time to press F8
