Cannot start App. Mgt. service

The services tool in the admin. tool set shows this service but it will not
start. It cannot find the file. I get error 126: the specified module
could not be found. Is this a necessary service for hardware/sw
installations? I seem to be having consistent problems getting drivers to be
discovered and loaded. I rarely get a hit on the "manufacturers HW list" and
drivers list in the Installation Wizard. Even using the mfr.'s CD, if one is
available, is iffy.

Is the following file present?

C:\Windows\System32\appmgmts.dll

No. I did a search on the entire C drive. Nothing found. I also visually
looked in the sys32 folder. This file is not there.

Expand a copy from the source (XP CD-ROM or from the i386 folder in the hard
drive). If you have SP1/SP2 installed on top, expand the file from
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder, which contains the latest version
of the DLL file.
