Cannot Shut Down Windows

Q

Question for Carey

Carey, yesterday you provided the below advice for
correcting the problem I have in not being able to shut
down Windows. I want to make sure I do this correctly.
When I open Bios, I see the following enabled: CPU
Internal Cache, External Cache, CPU 12 Cache ECC, Quick
Power on Self Test, APIC Mode. I don't see ACPI SCI IRQ.
Should I enable APIC Mode? Is that the same thing and
should I enable anything else? Also, under "Integrated
Peripherals", I see Onchip USB Controller which says ALL
ENABLED and then USB Keyboard Support & USB Mouse Support
and both are disabled. Should I leave Onchip USB
Controller enabled and also enable the mouse and
keyboard? Then when I ESC and see CMOS, I key over to
Save and Exit without actually going into CMOS? Is that
correct? Thank you so much for your help!

<<Open your BIOS and disable "ACPI SCI IRQ",
or disable any native Power Management support
offered in the BIOS for your motherboard.
Then under "Integrated Peripherals", set the
USB Controller to "Enabled" and "USB Device
Legacy Support" to "Keyboard + Mouse".
Next, save the new settings to CMOS and reboot

| noticed I am not the only one. Someone advised me to
try

| some utilities no longer work with XP SP2 and require
| updates. Each time I try to run it, it says filemon is
| not a valid Win32 app. After reading the instuctions, I
| doubt I understand it enough to use it anyway. Someone

but
| none of those solutions pertains to my problem or are
too

problem
| have advice that a novice could possibly use? I am
| incredibly frustrated, as usual. Thanks!
