Cannot share the computer

I have a two laptops and a desktop all running Windows XP Home Edition. All of the computers are connected to a HUB with no software firewalls on any of the computers. The firewall is on another device behind the hub. I am trying to share printers and files on the desktop unit. However, none of the other computers can see it and none of the laptops or the rest of the network can be seen by the desktop. The desktop can get out to the internet but not to share locally.

History: the desktop did have Norton Internet Security installed but that was de-installed. (possible something was left behind?)

Most probably, yes. and this can cause your problem.
