XP files cannot be seen from Vista laptop

I can't see the files or printer connected to my XP desktop via my Vista
laptop. The XP desktop is connected through a Netgear wireless hub and cable
modem, and has a Canon printer direct connected. Seperately, I am using a
Vista laptop with access through the Netgear wireless router to access the
internet; which works fine. I have disabled my software firewall on the XP,
shared my C drive and printers; yet the wireless laptop still can not see
anything on the desktop.

Any suggestions?

Can you ping XP by IP? if yes, can you ping it by name? Or this search result may help.

Steve,

Is this separate from the WiFi connectivity problem, that you discuss in the
Vista Networking group?

Inability to "see" one computer from another is most frequently caused by a
misconfigured firewall, or other security component. Also check the NetBT
setting on each computer.

Then look at logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each
computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

I had the same problem. I do not recall the specific identification of the
download that cured it but it was something like LLTSP and was something to
do with Link Layer Detection that runs on Vista but is not present in XP or
something like that. I was directed to a download patch for XP that cured
the problem. Not sure if this is any help at all but certainly I can now
see my files and printer that I could not detect before that.

You're talking about LLTD, and patch KB922120.
