Cannot share "Shared Documents" folder

Tim Boniwell

Hi,

I have a simple network. WinXP PRO desktop ethernet wired to wireless router
and wireless WinXP PRO Laptop. Internet access via ADSL modem connected to
router.

All works fine; all shared drives set up with simple sharing are accessible
to both machines.

The laptop's "Shared Docs" folder is accessible to the Desktop, but the
"SharedDocs" folder on the Desktop, although visible in "My Network Places"
on the Laptop cannot be opened on the Laptop. Error message "Access denied
.....etc"

I have tried disabling sharing on the folder and re-applying it. I have
tried disabling "simple" sharing and setting up full control permissions for
this folder for "Everyone," but still no joy. I cannot figure out what is
wrong here and would be grateful for any suggestions. I'm sure it must be
really simple since everything else is working fine, but so far it eludes
me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Tim Boniwell

Tim is there any chance that your firewall may be the problem? Are both IP's
trusted devices between each other in the firewall setup? Also read my reply
to David S. above your's to see, if anything applies.

Thanks, Jack

I'll have a look at the firewalls, although I presume that since everything
else is getting through one folder alone ought not to be any different. Or
is "SharedDocs" different form other folders?

I looked at your other response and will maybe try undoing all the shares
and redoing them.

Thanks again,

Tim
