cannot share folder on windows 98 with windows xp

Knut

I try to connect from Windows XP PC to shared folder on
another Windows 98 PC. I have set up a password for
folder sharing on Win 98. Controll access is set to
shared level.
When trying to connect from Win XP, I am prompted for a
password. In the pop-up window, user name \\server\guest
is preselected and I can only enter the password. However
after entering the information nothing happens (no
warning, no connection, nothing).
I read in MS Knowledge database that I should connect as
\\server\administrator. However I cannot change from
\\server\guest to anything else (field is grayed out).
Any suggestions; thank you

Knut,

is that Windows XP Home or Professional? If it is professional,
switch from Simple File Sharing to Classic File Sharing (setting
in Explorer).

If XP Home, remove the password from the shared folder, which is
a good idea for an immediate test anyway.
