Cannot Send Mail

I am currently using Windows Mail, I have been for about 6 months, all of a
sudden yesterday I cannot send mail. I have several email addresses that
are forwarded to this main account....gmail, earthlink. The error I am
getting is
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: money in drawer',
Account: 'pop.west.cox.net', Server: 'smtp.west.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I have contacted my ISP and they tell me this is a windows issue. Can you
help?

I have exactly the same problem and error message. My ISP said my problem
came from when I installed Office XP with outlook. She said Outlook cannot
work with Windows Mail and that I needed to uninstall Outlook, which I did.
She also said I need to uninstall and reinstall Windows mail, but I've not
yet figured out how to do that.

Probably not the issue here...been using Office 2007 for several months with
no issues. This issue just started yesterday out of the blue....I have not
added new programs but did get an auto Windows update the night before.

Same problem here, started yesterday, and I'm receiving the same message. My
server is Comcast. Is everyone with this problem using Vista or has yet
another virus been unleashed by someone who has no life?

Check out the following:

Comcast no longer uses port 25, they now use port 587.
Tools>accounts>your account>properties>advanced tab.

See the link for all the account settings:

Were you at home when you got that error message, or on a laptop
away from home?

No need to uninstall Outlook, but if you have no use for it, might as well.

No offense, but error messages often have subtle differences that are
not noticed by the average user. Please right-click on the error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here. I can't do much troubleshooting without
the complete error message.

Bob, do you get an error message when you try to send? If so,
right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a
reply here. I can't do much troubleshooting without the
complete error message.

'Unexpected termination' is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

You give up to easy. :)
What have you tried so far? Did you uninstall your antivirus?
Which antivirus is it?

I was at home. I have tried to install Windows Live mail and try it and it
is also failing.

Failure of a port 25 connection is almost always due to using an SMTP
server that does not belong to the provider of the Internet connection.
However, since you were sending from home, using your Cox Internet
connection, that does not seem to be the case here.

The next most likely cause is third party security software, like your
antivirus or anti-spyware. Which ones are you running?

Yes, that is your problem, the time zone is not set correctly.

Do you still have the box that it came in?

I have fixed my problem. Went back to Windows mail and deleted Windows Live.
What I found was an old copy of Norton that I had not renewed so it was
outdated. I currently use AVG. I uninstalled the old Norton and I can now
receive and send mail.
