Cannot Send Mail

Edel

I recently purchased a new computer which has Vista and Windows Mail
installed. I can receive mail but cannot send mail. I have confimed my
settings. There is also a Antivirus programme called Bullguard installed. I
have turned off the bullguard but it still does not work. Amazinly, I did
manage to send a few emails at different times but 9 times out of 10 they
just stay in my outbox. The error message I receive is below. Please help.
O, my email account is with Eircom (Ireland).

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'Read: JW Promotions booking form enquiry from web site.', Account: 'Emails',
Server: 'mail2.eircom.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451
http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=77.107.203.223', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Does your connection to that server cross over from internet provider's
equipment to another's before it gets to the server? If so, such
connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers.

Check your settings:

These instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should also
work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol.

Thanks Robert. My settings are correct but my broadband is with a company
called Perlico while by email account is with Eircom. Eircom also provides
broadband in Ireland. There was no problem with this when I was on XP and
Microsoft Outlook. Is there anything I can do apart from changing my
Broadband back to an Eircom Account? Thanks.

How many people are you sending to?
Have you checked won what eircom's maximum is?

Check if Eircom allows you to use any port other than port 25 to reach their
outgoing email server. If so, connections to other ports are seldom blocked
the same way. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out,
though -
there are about 65,000 ports available.

If not, you may need to switch to using Perlico's outgoing email server
even if you keep using Eircom's incoming email server and your old
email address.

You can take the outgoing email server part of these instructions:

<http://www.perlico.com/support/broadband/email_outlookExpress.aspx>

They were written for Outlook Express but should also work under
Windows Mail as long as they don't call for the HTTP protocol.

The error message does not really reflect a problem with using
an SMTP server belonging to a different provider. It may just be
a lack of authentication. So, try this:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Servers.
Make sure that "My server requires authentication" is checked.

If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest switching to the Perlico
SMTP server.
