Issue: I had installed Office 97 on WindowsXP. Apparantly I installed
or the laptop came with Outlook. I cannot send a link or webpage from
Internet Explorer. Everytime I try, exchange wizard comes up and asks
me what profile to use. I have edited the registry to remove anything
related to exchange, I set up outlook express as the default mail
handler. In Internet Explorer under programs it has outlook express as
the progeam to use for email. I have found other people in newsgroups
that seem to have the same issue but have not seen any replies. Can
anyone help me? Its getting very frustrating.

In conntrol panel I have an incon for Mail and Fax. I had office 97
installed and I uninstalled it but left windows messaging files and
maybe I should not have. I just want to use outlook express for
everything, I have no exhange server to connect to and I cant get rid
of it , please help!!!

Choose another email client from the list and click OK. Repeat the steps and set Outlook Express as the email client.

I installed Yahoo Messanger and it allowed me to select yahoo as the
default program. Great! However after I change it back to Outlook
Express, the same thing happens. For now I will use yahoo but this is
driving me nuts!

Click Start, Run and type the following commands one by one:

MSIMN.EXE /REG
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll"

I had already done that as well. When you go into Outlook Express it
says that it is set up as the default email but the damn Exchange setup
still comes up!

Another try:

Download DefaultMail utility from here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm

Run the utility and then click "Clear per-user settings and Enforce global settings (defaults)" button
Restart Windows.

If that does not help, set Outlook Express as the per-user default client using the same utility.
