Cannot Send Emails

Hi guys,

Really slowing down at work because I cant send emails. I keep getting this
response below. I tried taking off email scanning but it hasnt helped. Any
advice very much appreciated.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'test', Account: 'pop.1and1.co.uk', Server: 'auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '551 User not local; please try
<forward-path>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 551, Error Number:
0x800CCC79

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.1and1.co.uk', Server:

Looks like you may have two separate problems.

For the first error:
Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.

For the second error: which antivirus are you running? Some of them
are not fully compatible with Windows Mail.

Thanks Gary.

Authentication was already enabled.

I am using Norton Internet Security (which seems to have Symantec email
scanner).

The strange thing is that I have been sending and receiving emails without
any problem from Windows Mail when I am at home or at my old office.

I have moved to a new office where I cant send emails nor does it work when
I am at my sisters house. Would this therefore be something to do with the
different servers and if so, what should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Daniel

Using a different Internet connection can definitely cause problems
with sending. However, it doesn't appear that the error messages you
included reflect that type of problem. That problem nay exist but it
is being masked by an antivirus interference problem, which needs to be
solved first.

Norton Antivirus 2008 (and earlier) is among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which cures the problem. If
interested, contact Symantec via online chat.

In a worst case scenario, you may have to uninstall Norton, followed by
using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
