Cannot send emails with Windows Mail

Recently I have encountered a problem sending emails in Windows Mail. I think
many others have the same problem and I've already tried a few things to no
avail.
I get the following error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop3.sympatico.ca', Server: 'smtp3.sympatico.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I had AVG free edition and uninstalled it, restarted the PC, created a new
email account and it still doesn't work. It is very frustrating to say the
least

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank You!

Does your connection to that server cross from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it gets there? If so, such connections to
port 25 are often blocked to cause problems for spammers.

Sympatico doesn't seem to have written instructions for Windows
Mail yet, but their instructions for Outlook Express should also work
under Windows Mail if they don't call for using the HTTP protocol:

Some email providers insist that you enter your username with no
CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the part
of your email address starting with @, and some insist that you don't.

If you decide to install AVG again, it's a good idea to use a custom
install that tells it to leave out the part that scans email.
