cannot send email

below is the message when I try to send. I have recently installed Avast
but it was ok a few days ago right after the installation.
I did remove all the Norton stuff. But lately a "Windows Defender" popped
up to remove a malware. I am running Vista.
Any suggestions?

After uninstalling Norton you must follow up and use their special
debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Test Windows Mail afterwards to see if that fixed your problem.

If not, your Avast antivirus was probably installed with its default install
option. If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which
then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email scanning module.

While Avast is uninstalled, try Windows Mail again, just to verify that
the culprit has been found.
