I am unable to see objects in WinXP Pro Recycle Bin even thought the Recycle
Bin icon on the Desktop shows that contents are inside.
I have searched every database I know of and cannot find support for this
issue.
Also, uninstalling Norton Antivirus has no effect.

You might have your machine set to bypass the Recycle Bin to delete all files.
Why it shows some possible content is that you might still have to go through
the steps of deleting the Recycle Bin anyway.

Hi Jon,

Files Do Not Show Up in Recycle Bin When Deleted
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;168570

This seems to work for many: Make sure that something is in the Recycle Bin
(delete any file). With the Recycle Bin closed, right click and choose:
Empty Recycle Bin. When the confirm box appears, click ok. Reboot. Now the
Recycle Bin should work correctly.

If the above didn't help:

Files not being listed in the Recycle Bin seem to be related to a corrupt
info2 file. To correct the issue (Fat32):

Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:

Type CD \RECYCLED, and then press ENTER.
Type ATTRIB -r -s -h info2, and then press ENTER.
Type DEL INFO2, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: This deletes the damaged INFO2 file. Windows will recreate this file
as needed, automatically.

You can often restore files even if it is not being listed in the Recycle
Bin by searching (Start/Search) for the files by name, once found rename
them. If the files still cannot be recovered, follow the steps above, then
reboot. They should now be listed.

Does the FAT32 solution also apply to NTFS?

As far as I know, the Recycle Bin is set to it's original configuration as
set by the Windows installation.

Nothing I seem to do makes a difference.
I have spoken with many other with the same problem.
The only thing that we all have in common is that
there seems to be no discernable pattern to the frequency
of this problem.

Try this: from the Recovery Console delete all contents of the
RECYCLER folders with the DEL and RD commands, then delete the folders
as well.
"Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console"

I really thought I was on to something, but I get: "The system cannot find
the path specified." when I type in CD /RECYCLED.
This effectively terminates the next step.

I had a similar issue and I resolved it by assuming the filess used to
recycle within the c:\recycler directory were corrupted. So I opened a
command prompt window and did this:

cd c:\
rmdir /s recycler
Ansered Y to the "are you sure"
Closed the command prompt window.
Immediately rebooted.

Windows recreates the recycler subdirectory and the other files hidden
within.

This made my problem go away. It worked for me, but I caution it may not
work for you. I am not reponsible for other problems this my cause you.
