Cannot save sometimes

I have Word 2007 using Windows XP.

Sometimes when I open a document, change it and try to save it, I get a
message that it cannot be saved because another program using it. I have to
add something like "2" to the filename and then save. No other programs are
open as far as I can tell. Any ideas? Thanks.
