Cannot save attachment

I have AOL running on XP.

Most of the I cannot open attachment sent from some people. Attachment comes
as win.dat. Other people can receive this attachment without any problem.

How do I open win.dat and why it comes as win.dat?

You have to use Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express).

Or have whoever sent the file use HTML or Plain Text format. Tell them not
to us Rich Text format. Have them send it again.

<quote>
win.dat is usually a complete copy of a message with attachments in a
proprietary Microsoft "rich text" format. Have the sender stop using "rich
text" in their Outlook client and/or Exchange SMTP Connector, or use Outlook
just long enough to read the message and retrieve the attachment.

<quote>
For the win.dat problem: Make sure you use HTML or Plain Text format
when sending messages to Outlook Express users, or users of any other
e-mail client besides Outlook. Don't use Rich Text format, which is
proprietary to Outlook and will cause problems for other recipients, one
of which is that they won't get your attachments and will instead get
that winmail.dat file.
