Cannot run check disk on boot up

I'm getting the message that the system "cannot open
volume for direct access" for a schedule check of the
disk.

The volume is NTFS
System is AtlonXP2200
512mb system ram
120gb maxtor ata133
Winxp SP1 with all the updates

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are running third party firewall, that MAY be the problem.
Currently, Microsoft acknowledges an issue but does not have a fix yet.

I run Zone Alarm and this is what I did that worked for me (and may or may
not for you):

You can go into ZoneAlarm (ZA) 5, go to the overview tab then preferences

UNcheck the PROTECT ZA CLIENT

That is what is protecting your firewall from malware and locking the hard
drive from a scan

Do the chkdsk then follow same steps and reenable for max protection
