I am using Windows XP Professional and here is the issue:
whenever I right click on the desktop my computer
freezes. I can right click on the taskbar or in any
program but not on the desktop itself. When the computer
freezes, I am able to Ctrl-Alt-Delete and when I do I get
error messages that I need to close System Shell
Extension and Explore.exe before I can restart. How do I
fix this?

Depends, this is common behavior from MS updates 817287 and/or 821557,
having Xupiter or Hotbar installed or a restriction. Start here:

Enable or Disable the Right Click Context Menu (Line 56)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
