cannot restore

I am unable to restore my XP pro machine to a previous
restore point. I have tried this in safe mode as well
with no success. Error is simply "unable to restore to a
previous restore point".
 
Usually caused by a corrupt restore file. To fix, turn off restore, reboot and
turn restore back on.
