Cannot restore desktop icons for My Comp & IE

After attempting to run an old Windows 95 program, many
of the icons on my desktop were changed. They still
worked, just the displayed icon was changed to a generic
icon. Many of them I was able to change back (pdf
shortcuts and a couple program shortcuts), but the My
Computer and Internet Explorer icons will not change back
to default.

I have used Customize Desktop under Desktop Display
properties. I can change these two icons to new pictures,
but changing them back to the default makes them go to
the generic icon picture instead. I noticed that My
Computer pulls it's picture from \windows\explorer.exe,
but all the others (Recycle Bin) pull from
windows\system32\shell32.dll. Could there be a problem
with explorer.exe somehow?

I noticed the icons for Internet Explorer and Outlook
Express in the 'pinned' area of the start menu are the
generic icon now too, instead of what they should be.

System restore to a few days ago did not fix the problem.
Uninstalling the old win95 program didn't do anything
either.

Thanks in advance for any help.
