cannot reset startup page from manufacturer's page

I just reinstalled all my software for the original discs after installing a
new hard drive. Running xp pro with sp2, AdAware, Adwatch, Spybot and AVG
antivirus.
The original software sets the home/startup page to
http://www.toshiba.com/tai-new/ Usually I can then reset it to google and
it stays on google.
This time it won't let me. I can reset it to "current" with google, but it
resets to toshiba on the next opening. If I turn off Adwatch and reset it,
it stays on google as the home until the next reboot. Then it resets to
toshiba.
I'm assuming that there is something in the newest updates of windows and
adaware that are doing this, but how can I fix it?

You may also want to check out StartPage Guard -

StartPage Guard protects your PC from cyberscam, by monitoring status of
your internet browser StartPage and preventing it from any unauthorized
changes.

And to keep from having to manually edit the registry to unlock your
homepage settings, try this little script by Doug Knox, MS MVP:
