Cannot remove Outlook 2000

This problem has been an occasional thorn in my side, but has become a big
problem since installing Office XP. The computer in question has been
through Office 97 with Outlook 98, Office 97 with Outlook 2000 and now
Office XP with Outlook 2002. The problem is that even after I install
Office XP, Outlook 2000 is still listed in Add/Remove programs and appears
to still be there in some form. When I open several other programs the
Outlook 2000 SR-1 setup starts and it tries to install something (I don't
know what) and even if you follow the instructions to install whatever it's
looking for, it comes right back up the next time. I took these steps the
other day with no change in the behavior:
1)uninstalled Office XP completely
2)reinstalled Outlook 2000 by itself
3)uninstalled Outlook 2000 (Outlook still listed in Add/Remove programs
after this)
4)ran the Office 2K removal program from the resource kit
5)reinstalled Office XP

The Outlook 2000 I installed was the standalone program that we received
with Exchange 2000 and not part of an Office 2000 install, so I thought the
Office 2K removal program would cover it - it seemed to remove a whole bunch
of stuff, but still didn't get whatever persistent garbage is left over.
Anyone have any other ideas to try?

All these complains just verify one important fact: OUTLOOK SUCKS!

You may have to remove the entry from the registry. Let's see.... Don't
forget to backup your registry before making any changes to it, and also,
proceed only if you feel comfortable changing your registry.

- First, remove MS Office XP from your PC using the conventional way.
- Second, open your registry editor and go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and
look through all the keys listed under it for one having this entry:

"Display Name REG_SZ Outlook 2000" (or Microsoft
Outlook 2000).

When found, delete the key that contains that entry (not just the "Display
Name" entry.

- Then restart windows and see what happens.

I wish that's all I wanted to do - that will take it off of the add/remove
programs list, but the whatever is lurking in the background from Outlook
2000 SR-1 is still there. It's really irritating me because Outlook XP,
Word, Excel, etc. all work fine, but totally unrelated programs seem to
access some mysterious part of Outlook 2000 that remains impervious to
uninstallation. Every time I try to uninstall it, the uninstall starts and
somewhere in the middle just vanishes.
