while trying to delete files from my mp3 player I keep getting the following
message ( cannot remove folder the directory is not empty ) and I cannot
delete, please help me get rid of these stubborn files.

You need to be logged as Admin? are you the Admin on this machine?..
Try to delete it in Safe Mode and see if you will be able to delete it.
Take the ownership of it and hen delete:
